What do Real, Assumed and Absent mean?

A BreakPoint assessment maps every AI-influenced decision in your organisation against a single question: is there a named human who holds genuine, exercisable authority at the exact point this decision is made?

The answer falls into one of three determinations.

●
Real
A named individual holds documented authority and can exercise it at the point of decision. If a regulator asked today who approved this, there is a clear, evidenced answer.
▲
Assumed
Authority is described in a policy, framework or governance document, but there is no evidence it is exercisable at decision level. The person named has the title; they do not hold the control.
✕
Absent
No named human holds authority at the point AI makes or influences the determination. The decision has no owner. The accountability gap is structural, not incidental.

Assumed and Absent are not the same risk, but both are regulatory exposure. Assumed is the more common finding, and the harder conversation: the organisation believes it has governance in place.
